If you outsource jobs, own up to it

Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, has co-authored a new bill. The Outsourcing Accountability Act of 2012 will require large corporations with annual earnings of $1 billion or more to reveal the actual number of employees they have in the U.S. and how many workers they have overseas.

The way things are now, corporations only have to reveal the total number of employees they have but not where they are employed. Large companies such as Apple are making unheard-of profits on the backs of poor Third World people who toil long hours for almost no pay in unsafe conditions.

These corporations set up factories in countries with brutal regimes, such as communist China, that deny their citizens basic human rights and worker protections. The abuses these workers are subjected to often lead to poor health conditions and even suicide.

More and more, Americans want to know if the products we buy from American companies are actually made here in America.

Rep. McNerney says, "American people need to know what companies are shipping jobs overseas, and what companies are committed to creating jobs for well-qualified Americans."

I totally agree.
