Health Care
In a country like ours which has the world’s best-trained healthcare professionals and leads in medical innovation, every American should have access to quality, affordable health care. Unfortunately, not everyone does. Today, more than 45 million Americans live without health care coverage. And even some who have insurance struggle with the soaring costs of prescription drugs.
This is a growing problem raises and it has an impact on our society and our economy. As the members of my Health Care and Small Business Advisory Boards frequently report, the rising cost of health care is a burden both on individuals and businesses. We need urgent reform to ensure that health care is affordable, accessible and available to everyone in our nation.
In Congress, I voted to provide the State Children’s Health Insurance Program coverage to 10 million low-income American children, including 45,000 in Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Alameda counties. I also backed efforts to reduce prescription drug prices for seniors by allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with drug companies and worked to expand federal funding for life-saving stem cell research.
